Silje is a Norwegian actress currently based in Oslo. She is educated at the Baardar Academy (two year musical theatre course), and at Guildford School of Acting (three year musical theatre course). Silje has experience with theatre, musicals, film, TV, dubbing, commercials and voice over.
Silje was born in Mosjøen, Norway, and describes her childhood as a peaceful childhood together with her three year older sister Linn, her mum Laila and her dad Ståle. Silje comes from a family that is very interested in culture and art, and she literally grew up with choir singing, her dad playing the guitar, and music whenever and wherever possible. She started playing instruments early, and she’s played accordion, piano and flute.
Despite of this it took her years before she realized that she wanted to become an actress. Her big childhood dream was to move to America and become a cartoon drawer for Disney, and for a while she wanted to be a farmer and inherit the farm where her dad grew up. Luckily she changed her mind and in august 1998 she started high school in Norway (Mosjøen VGS) with music as her main subject, at the school where her dad today is the principle. Silje soon discovered that her future did not lie with the flute, so at age 16 she moved away from home to study dance in Bodø at Bodø VGS. After two years in Bodø, where she learnt how to dance, she applied for Revyskolen Solbakken Folkehøgskole. She got in, and this was where she first came across acting.
However, it wasn’t until the following year, when she started at the Baardar Academy in Oslo, that Silje had her first proper meeting with Stanislavski and the art of acting. It grew into a love relationship that she describes as “a relationship that I believe will last forever.” Silje didn’t feel ready to meet professional life after two years at Baardar, and she was accepted as a musical theatre student on the highly renowned Guildford School of Acting in Great Britain, only half an hour on the train from the heart of London. Silje graduated in 2007 with a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre after three years on the Musical Theatre course.
Silje was cast in her first major role before graduating from Guildford. She portrayed the role as Solveig in Peer Gynt in Cairo; A spectacular version of the well known Norwegian Ibsen play finishing off the Ibsen year 2006 in front of the pyramids and Sphinx at the Giza plateau in Cairo. Since then Silje has worked continuously as an actress, notably with the leading role in the feature film Thale which has earned her international recognition.
